With plenty of activities on the island, there are so many ways to celebrate and spend time together.

Here’s a list of ways you can show Mom how much she means to you this year.

1. Linger Over Brunch

Brunch is often the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to Mother’s Day activities. The island is full of restaurants and cafés that offer plenty of morning dishes to make your mouth water. A few of our favorite Coronado brunch spots are Tartine, Crown Bistro Restaurant, and French Crepe Café. Just remember, these restaurants can get a little crowded, especially on Mother’s Day, so make a reservation in advance.

2. Indulge Her Interests

Does your mom spend the majority of her free time out in the garden or watching home decorating shows? If so, purchase tickets to the Coronado Historic Home Tour. Every Mother’s Day, six of Coronado’s historic homes open their doors and welcome guests to explore. It’ll give her a chance to see the diverse architecture and interior design of some of Coronado’s most noteworthy dwellings.

3. Relax at the Beach

There’s almost no way you can come to Coronado and skip the beach, so might as well make a day of it. You might have to fight off “May Gray,” this time of year where the marine layer hangs low in the morning, but you’ll be rewarded with beaches that are less crowded and sunshine that is less intense. Spend some time with Mom walking along the beach, or bring a towel, grab her favorite coffee, and enjoy the crashing waves—you may even get lucky and see a few dolphins frolicking in the surf.

4. Be Pampered Together

Booking an appointment at the spa means you can enjoy your gift to Mom as well. Schedule a couple’s massage to relax side by side, or let her choose a treatment or service for herself. Coronado spas offer everything from facials, massages, and manicures to foot reflexology and hair coloring, so there are plenty of ways to pamper Mom on her special day.

5. Play a Round (and Let Her Win)

If Mom’s idea of relaxation involves the green, then make a tee time at Coronado Municipal Golf Course. As one of the premier greens in the region, you and Mom will get to play on a pristine course with breathtaking views as its backdrop. Just remember to go easy on Mom; it’s her day after all.

6. Spend Some Time Shopping

Downtown Coronado is home to a number of unique boutiques and shops. It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon, especially if you’re not sure of what gift to get your mother. Leisurely stroll along Orange Avenue, pop into a café to refuel, then let her go on a mini shopping spree and choose her favorite clothing, décor, or treasure to be her Mother’s Day gift.

7. Learn Something New Together

Give your mom an adventure to remember and sign up for a surf or paddleboard class. You’ll be able to spend quality time together out on the water while creating a bond over trying a new experience. If Mom is an adrenaline junkie, try shredding some waves with her; otherwise, rent a couple paddleboards and head out for a relaxing day out on the bay.

8. Hit the Pavement

Maybe Mom is the type of person to never miss a morning run, no matter what day it is. If that sounds like her, then hit the pavement alongside her and ask her to change up her running (or cycling) route for the day. The Bayshore Bikeway is a flat route that runs through Coronado and Silver Strand, and along the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge. She probably won’t mind stopping to walk and talk as you both take in the beautiful views.

9. Enjoy Dinner with a View

Depending on how your Mother’s Day in Coronado plays out, dinner might be a sweet way to end it. The Coronado Ferry Landing has a variety of restaurants that offer a view of the glittering San Diego skyline.

10. Stay Somewhere Sweet

Of course, you can extend your Mother’s Day celebrations and turn it into a whole weekend getaway. The Coronado Inn is at the center of all the action on the island. And with a pristine pool, friendly front desk, and super soft beds, a stay with us is the ultimate way to spoil Mom. Book your Mother's Day stay with us today!
10 Items Not to Forget on Your Coronado Vacation2018-05-01T20:49:49+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/10-items-not-to-forget-on-your-coronado-vacation/
Maybe you’ve been dreaming of the sun, surf, and sand for months now, or maybe you’ve just decided on a spur-of-the-moment visit to the island for a little R and R—whatever the reason, Coronado makes an excellent vacation spot. With so many things to do, see, and eat on the island, you’ll want to be ready to hit the ground running as soon as you get here.

Make sure you’re prepared for your trip to paradise, and don’t forget to pack these 10 items.

1. Sunscreen

Fun in the sun can quickly turn into unwelcomed pain if you forget to pack—and apply—some sunscreen. You can expect year-round sun here, so sunscreen should be at the top of your packing list no matter when you visit. Don’t forget to reapply as needed, especially if you’re planning on spending the day soaking up the sun while out on the beach, green, or bike trail.

2. Camera (or Phone)

If you don’t carry a physical camera anymore, at least make sure to keep your phone handy to quickly capture your favorite vacation moments. If you do fancy yourself as a photographer, this would be the trip to bring your camera. From the twinkling lights of downtown San Diego across the bay to dolphins playing in the waves to cranes flying over the San Diego Bay Wildlife Refuge, there are plenty of opportunities to get a frame-worthy shot.

3. Portable Charger

You’ll most likely be out and about all day, but you don’t want the lack of outlets to impede your day of fun. Pack a portable charger so that you have access to your phone at all times. It’ll come in handy for pictures, maps, and even to make a reservation at one of the many hot spots on the island.

4. Swimsuit

You can’t come to Coronado without hitting the beach! Packing a swimsuit will ensure you’re ready for all water activities from swimming to surfing to paddleboarding. The Coronado Inn even has a pool for days when the ocean water is too cold to enjoy.

5. Hat

Even if you’ve slathered on sunscreen, you’ll still want a hat to help you keep cool. A big floppy hat is perfect for lying out on the beach, and a baseball hat will help shade your eyes while you’re golfing, running, biking, or just walking around the town.

6. Light Jacket

It’s usually warm and sunny in Coronado all year long, but the nights can get a little chilly, even in the summer. We always recommend dressing in layers so you’re ready for any weather. A light jacket or cardigan will keep you warm (but not too warm) for those rare instances when the temperatures dip below 60 degrees.

7. Walking Shoes

The majority of the attractions on the island are all within walking distance of each other—so be prepared for a lot of walking! Be sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes to help you make it through all the steps you’re bound to log. That might mean a pair of sneakers or just a really comfortable pair of sandals; the choice is yours.

8. Beach Essentials

If you’re planning on spending some serious time out on the sand, make sure to pack everything you’ll need to make the most of it. We recommend a swimsuit cover up, sunglasses, goggles, and your favorite beach read. Other essentials, like footballs, boogie boards, sand castle supplies, coolers, and beach chairs can be picked up for relatively cheap at shops around the island.

9. Snacks, Drinks, Cooler

You don’t necessarily have to pack these into your luggage before you get to the island, but you’ll definitely want some snacks, drinks, and a cooler to take with you while you’re out and about. With the Coronado Inn as your HQ, you can take a quick trip to the grocery store and stock up on everything you need to get you through your vacation. Our kitchenette suites also give you the tools and appliances to make your own breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks to take with you on the go.

10. Your Reservation Confirmation at the Coronado Inn

An amazing vacation in Coronado starts with booking a room at the Coronado Inn. We’re located in the heart of the island and are close to all the shops, restaurants, and activities that will make your trip memorable.
How to Spend a Beautiful Spring Day in Coronado2018-03-15T16:37:27+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/how-to-spend-a-beautiful-spring-day-in-coronado/
While many regions mark spring as their rainy season, it’s almost always sunny in Coronado—no matter the time of year. There are so many activities to partake in during the spring it can be overwhelming to plan out your day. Our team at the Coronado Inn front desk is here to help you plan the perfect day that meets all your expectations, but if you’re looking for a place to start, follow this guide to spending a spring day in Coronado.

Breakfast at the Inn

Get your day started with an energizing continental breakfast. You can save time and money by enjoying your first meal of the day at the Coronado Inn. Our complimentary breakfast includes all your morning favorites like coffee, orange juice, fruit, cereal, bagels, and assorted pastries.

Morning Bike Ride

The sunny skies and cool weather create the opportune environment for a leisurely bike ride. Take advantage of our bike rentals and head out to the Bayshore Bikeway, which is a roughly six–mile, paved trail that goes along the island. And since it’s mostly flat terrain, you don’t have to be an avid biker to enjoy the ride. The bikeway hits all the major points along the island like the ferry landing, Coronado Bridge, Hotel del Coronado, and Silver Strand Beach.

Lunch at Spreckels Park

After riding around the bay, you may work up an appetite. Grab a quick bite (we like Which Wich, Panera, Burger Lounge, and Lobster West Coronado) then head to the park for a picnic. You can bring a towel or blanket—and maybe a light jacket—or dine at one of the picnic tables at the park. The sunshine, green grass, and chirping birds will only enhance your al fresco lunch and remind you why spring is such a special time of year.

Check Out the Artwork at the Coronado Public Library

Once you’re done with lunch, cross Orange Avenue and check out the Coronado Public Library. There are several significant pieces of public art and fine art within its building. Two fresco murals—“El Dia del Mercado” and “Canasta de Flores”—were painted by artist Alfredo Ramos Martinez and date back to 1938. The Children’s Library entryway features Wizard of Oz-inspired glass panels, and the Spreckels Reading Room showcases a granite sculpture and tapestry both by Donal Hord, as well as a framed pastel painted by Alfredo Ramos Martinez.

Quick Dip in (or Walk Along) the Ocean

If you’re brave enough, you can take a quick dip in the ocean, or take a surf lesson since the waves won’t be as crowded; we say brave, because even though it’s sunny year round, the water doesn’t really heat up until mid-summer. That doesn’t mean you should skip the beach, though; spring’s sunshine will keep you warm enough for a walk along the shore to help you burn off your lunch.

(If the Pacific is too cold, but you’re longing for a plunge, you can always cannonball into our pool at Coronado Inn. We keep it heated and ready for a swim all year long.)

Dinner at the Ferry Landing

After a day of activities, use your time at dinner to wind down. The Ferry Landing has delicious dining locations and mesmerizing views of downtown San Diego. Have a glass of wine (or two) at Il Fornaio along with some Italian cuisine; or choose a cuisine that reflects our southern neighbors and opt for a margarita and Mexican fare at Candelas on the Bay. Don’t forget to end your night on a sweet note with dessert at Coronado Cupcakery or Choco Amore.

Book Your Spring Vacation at Coronado Inn Now

When you’re planning your beautiful day in Coronado, you need a wonderful place to stay, of course. Located at the heart of the island, Coronado Inn places you in close proximity to all the restaurants, shops, and activities to make your spring vacation a perfect one. Visit us online to book your room today.
6 Hotel Amenities You Should Always Take Advantage Of2018-03-04T17:49:55+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/7-hotel-amenities-you-should-always-take-advantage-of/
There are several things to consider when booking your stay in Coronado. When you’re looking to save money without sacrificing comfort or quality, a hotel’s amenities are key in helping you stay on budget during your trip. At Coronado Inn, we offer our guests many little luxuries to enhance their stay without breaking the bank. So next time you stay with us, make sure you take advantage of these seven (totally free!) hotel amenities.

Wi-Fi

Internet access has become so prevalent, you wouldn’t think twice about free Wi-Fi when you travel. Believe it or not, there are some hotels—most of them being branded chains and very pricey luxury accommodations—that are still charging their guests for Wi-Fi. You won’t have to worry about shelling out for extra fees to cover your internet access at Coronado Inn—we gladly give all our guests complimentary Wi-Fi. After all, we know how important it is to check your business e-mails and/or post all the vacation photos you take.

Swimming Pool

We know that it’s very likely you’re visiting Coronado because of our glistening beaches, but that doesn’t mean your swimming solely needs to take place in the sea. When you want to take a dip but don’t want to deal with the throngs of sunbathers lying across Coronado Beach, all you have to do is make it down to our pool. You can really relax on our poolside chairs or get in a quick workout by swimming some laps—totally up to you. We just recommend slathering on the sunscreen.

Kitchen Unit

Whether you’re choosing to eat healthy or trying to save money, eating out for every meal while you’re on vacation can add up (in calories and dollars). Take advantage of our kitchen suites (with a fridge, microwave, and stove-top burners) and hit the nearby grocery store to make a home-cooked meal while at our Inn. You can also take advantage of our BBQ grills and add a little extra flavor to your meal.

Memory Foam Beds

After a long day at the beach or exploring, you’ll be more than happy to tuck into a comfortable, memory foam bed. A good night’s rest will leave you with the energy to enjoy your stay with us and the ability to take advantage of Coronado’s perennial sunshine.

Front Desk

If you need help planning your trip or getting around the city, our front desk is ready to assist you. We pride ourselves on service and keep our front desk staffed 24/7, with a knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful team. We can help you navigate your Coronado adventure, find the very best place to eat, decipher your travel woes, and find family-appropriate activities (if necessary). All you have to do is ask!

Pet Policy

Our island is extremely dog friendly, so it would be a shame to leave your furry friend at home. At Coronado Inn, we allow up to two pets per room (dogs or cats) for a low $15-per-night fee for each animal. Not every hotel offers a lenient pet policy, and many of the ones that do, charge a hefty fee. Take advantage of the opportunity to have your four-legged friend accompany you on your trip, and visit one of the many dog-friendly beaches while you’re here.

Location

While it’s not technically an amenity, you should definitely take advantage of a hotel’s location. If you’re looking to save money, booking a place to stay near main attractions and dining will greatly reduce the cost of transportation. Coronado’s walkability is hailed by many of our visitors, and the Coronado Inn is at the heart of the city. You can walk to beaches, parks, restaurants, grocery stores, and even to the Ferry Landing, which will take you into downtown San Diego.

At Coronado Inn, we welcome you to take advantage of all the amenities we have to offer. Not only does our island have sunshine year round, it also offers many ways to take advantage of it.

Pack your shorts, sandals, and sunblock because here are 10 ways to enjoy the myriad of sun-filled “winter” activities around Coronado.

1. Dip Your Toes in the Water

If you’re in Coronado for the winter, the first thing we recommend doing is heading out to the beach. Where else can you dip your toes in the water (or fully swim, if you can stand the colder water temperatures) while the rest of the country is fighting off frostbite?

2. Roast a S’more on the Beach

Okay, maybe the water’s a little too cold. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the beach! The Hotel Del will set up a bonfire and s’more station for you, or you can do it yourself at one of the bonfire pits further up the beach.

3. Catch a Wave

Winter tends to be a little less crowded in Coronado, and that includes the waves as well. If you’ve never surfed before, take advantage and learn without the added stress of someone dropping in on your wave.

4. Jet Ski on the Bay

If surfing isn’t your thing, you can still make it out on the water for some action. Trade in the waves for the Bay and jump on a jet ski to get your blood pumping.

5. Hit a Hole in One

Looking for a golf ball in the snow isn’t recommended, and it’s not something you have to worry about at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. With perfect weather year round, you can keep your golf game in tip-top shape, even in the winter, while taking in stunning views of downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bridge.

6. Dine Al Fresco

Whether it’s sushi, pizza, or the perfect fish taco, Coronado offers plenty of places to dine while enjoying the sunshine. Grab a table outside so you can take full advantage of soaking in some vitamin D.

7. Take Your Dog for a Walk

Our island is extremely dog friendly, so Fido can have plenty of opportunity to appreciate a little sunshine as well. Take your furry friend out to dog beach, out to lunch (see above), or to one of the many parks in Coronado and let them enjoy the warmer weather.

8. Ride the Bayshore Bikeway

You don’t have to be an avid biker to enjoy the sights along the Bayshore Bikeway; it’s about six miles around the island and mostly flat terrain. This is one of the best ways to see the sights around the island, including the ferry landing, Coronado Bridge, Hotel Del, and Silver Strand Beach.

9. Grab a Flight…of Beer

Head to Coronado Brewing Company and order a flight of their popular brews. Flights, which are usually 4 oz. pours, can be customized so you can select your favorite beers or try something new. Winter is a great time for special seasonal brews, or order one (or a few) that you might typically pass on when it’s warmer out.

10. Jump on the Ferry

While Coronado has much for you to enjoy, you can always take a quick ferry ride across the Bay and spend the day exploring San Diego. Downtown has great restaurants and Balboa Park offers awesome picnicking areas and tons of museums.

Planning Your Winter Getaway

Beat the winter blues and book your stay at the Coronado Inn. Nestled in the heart of the island, we offer quick access to restaurants, shopping, and sun-soaked activities. Our affordable rates mean you can book a last-minute getaway without breaking the bank. Click here to book your stay with us today!
Valentine's Day in Coronado: Take Romance to a Whole New Level2018-02-05T21:53:11+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/valentines-day-in-coronado-take-romance-to-a-whole-new-level/
Love is in the air in Coronado! While Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, we know there are plenty of ways, reasons, and opportunities to show your loved one how much they mean to you.

Make Coronado Inn your love nest for the night or extend your stay and keep the romance going for a long weekend. From candlelit dinners to romantic rendezvous around the island, here are five ways to spend time with the one you love while visiting Coronado.

Keep Up with Each Other at the Annual Valentine’s Day Run

Let the world know you’re taken with a customized bib at the Coronado Valentine’s Day 10k, 5k, and 1-Mile Fun Run. You can sign up for the run as an individual or couple, and choose a bib that represents your current relationship status (Available, It’s Complicated! or I’m Taken). It’s a way to practice a little self-care and self-love (by doing something healthy), and you’ll get to take home a commemorative T-shirt and Valentine’s Day-themed medal to help you celebrate the heart-filled holiday.

Dine with a View at the Ferry Landing

Make a reservation for just after sunset and dine amidst the twinkling lights of downtown San Diego, just across the bay. At Candelas on the Bay, you can enjoy the view while dining on delicious Mexican cuisine, while Il Fornaio offers plates of Italian favorites served by candlelight. And if you’d rather have sweets with your sweet, the Ferry Landing also has dessert shops like Coronado Cupcakery and Choco Amore.

Enjoy Brunch Together (Instead of Dinner)

A candlelit dinner might get all the glory when it comes to romance, but brunch can be just as special. Not only will you avoid the crowds, you’ll also be able to linger a little longer and spend more of the day together. The Crown Bistro Restaurant is a local favorite with mouthwatering dishes like banana foster French toast, eggs Benedict, and artichoke scrambles. There’s often a line out the door on weekends, but since Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year, you should be able to be seated and start sipping your mimosa without much of a wait.

Watch the Sunset on the Beach

Few things are as romantic as watching the sky change colors as twilight sets in. Grab a warm beverage then take a long walk on the beach just as the sun sets and share a quiet, intimate moment together.

Embark on a Romantic Cruise for Two

You don’t have to travel all the way to Italy to take a romantic gondola cruise; the Gondola Company can take you around the canals and waterways right here in Coronado. Enjoy a romantic and relaxing cruise through the Coronado Cays and be transported to a world of your own. Special Valentine’s Day cruises will embark on Monday, Tuesday, and of course, Wednesday. Each 50-minute excursion includes a complimentary dessert plate, blankets, an ice bucket, and souvenir wine glasses. Wine bottles are available for purchase or you can choose to bring your own beverage. You can take the romance up a notch by upgrading your trip to include a professional mandolin or violin player to serenade you as you sail.

Book your stay at Coronado Inn now, so you’ll be ready for romance on Valentine’s Day. Our front desk team will be more than excited to help you plan the ultimate day of romance for you and your loved one.
A Year of Instagram: Where to Take a Quintessential Coronado Pic Each Month2018-01-28T22:55:01+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/a-year-of-instagram-where-to-take-a-quintessential-coronado-pic-each-month/
Every day, week, and month is another chance to capture the perfect Instagram picture. Fortunately, our beautiful island of Coronado has no shortage of ‘Gramworthy photo opportunities. Here’s our month-by-month guide to help you capture a quintessentially Coronado photo for your feed.

January

It doesn’t get too cold during the winter in Coronado, so it’s a great time to go for an evening stroll down Orange Avenue. Capture the glowing neon of the Village Theater or make your way down to the Ferry Landing, and photograph the iconic lights of the San Diego skyline across the waterway.

February

February marks the annual Coronado Valentine’s Day 10k, 5k, and 1 Mile Fun Run. So whether you’re single or taken, the day of love can be all about loving yourself. Take a picture with your medal after you cross the finish line, or snap a pic of the bridge as you run under it along the course.

March

There really isn’t a bad month to have lunch outside with your four-legged BFF. Since March 23rd is National Puppy Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to take your pooch (no matter how old they are) out for lunch and snap a picture. Let’s face it, cute dogs always garner dozens of Likes, and when you pair your pup with the beautiful backdrop of Coronado, there’s no going wrong.

April

The saying “April showers bring May flowers” doesn’t really apply to Coronado. Our city only gets an average of 25 days of rain a year, so chances are, you’ll be met with sunny skies—even in April. If you’re visiting our island, rent a bike (or if you’re a local, grab your own) and bike Silver Strand. It’s a breezy ride with peaceful views of the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge (to the east) and glimpses of the Pacific Ocean (to the west), so there are plenty of opportunities to take a quick Instagram pic.

May

The Coronado Historic Home Tour takes place every Mother’s Day, and it’s an opportune moment to get a stunning photo of some of Coronado’s most notable homes. From the stunning details to unique angles, you’ll leave the home tour with a few images that’ll really stand out in your feed.

June

Coronado’s Summer Concert Series kicks off in June, so why not make it the star of a few Instagram pics. Take a few of you and your crew in Spreckels Park or snap one of the band hitting the stage. Either way, it’ll be a way for you to kick off your summer (both on the ‘Gram and in real life).

July

Nothing says summer in Coronado like the city’s Fourth of July parade and fireworks. Make your followers jealous with shots of your mouthwatering BBQ and pictures of Coronado Beach. And don’t forget to show off your patriotism by capturing a photo filled with red, white, and blue!

August

There’s no denying that the main draw of Coronado is its beautiful sandy beaches. Head out to the waves this month and capture a picture of the action. You can even bring your canine companion with you to dog beach and snap a few photos of them playing in the Pacific. Soak up the sun (after applying the SPF) and make it your mission this month to capture the best beach picture.

September

San Diego Food Week happens twice a year, one of them being in September. Take this opportunity to try out all the restaurants in Coronado you’ve been meaning to try and take all the foodie pictures your heart desires. Fill up on delicious food, and fill up your feed. If anyone asks, you’re a food blogger and the calories don’t count.

October

No one does Halloween better than the city of Coronado. With hauntingly fun, family-friendly events all month long—from pumpkin painting parties to the literal shut down of Orange Avenue on the big day—there’s plenty of opportunity for a memorable Halloween picture. Don a new costume for each event, and your feed will surely become #HalloweenGoals.

November

November has one of San Diego’s favorite weeks of the year—Beer Week. Stop by Coronado Brewing Company for deals and special releases. Make your visit ‘Gramworthy by snapping a photo of a flight of beer and share your favorite brew with your followers.

Only in Coronado can you go ice-skating on the beach. Head over to the Hotel Del Coronado to take that quintessential picture of you, the ice, and the sandy beach behind you. When it’s time to hang up the skates, you can grab a drink on the outdoor deck and get a few photos of the setting sun or an awesome Boomerang of you and your friends toasting around the hotel’s fire pits.

Most of these involve bettering themselves—physically, mentally, and/or financially. Unfortunately, many of these resolutions are broken within the first few months of the year.

At Coronado Inn, we’re here to help our guests keep their resolutions and make this new year their best ever. Here are a few very common resolutions you’ll actually be able to keep while staying at the Coronado Inn.

Get Active

Our location in the heart of Coronado makes it easy for you to head out for a quick jog on the beach, around Spreckels Park, or along the Silver Strand Bikeway. Of course, you can also rent a bicycle and bike along the entire San Diego Bayshore Bikeway (which is a whopping 24-mile trail). Or you can take advantage of our warmer weather and spend the day swimming in the waves or spend an hour or so swimming laps in our pool. And at the end of it all, crash on our memory foam mattresses without the worry of being sore in the morning.

Eat Healthier

Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, and you don’t have to worry about skipping it while on vacation. We provide continental breakfast every morning, with fruit, juice, cereal, and coffee to help fuel your day. We also offer BBQ grills on site and rooms that are equipped with full kitchens, so you can stop by the grocery store or visit the Farmer’s Market (held every Tuesday afternoon at the Ferry Landing) and whip up your own healthy meal whenever you want.

Practice Self-Care

With every passing year, it seems there’s more and more importance being placed on self-care. The act of taking a vacation is probably a step in the right direction for your mental health; it allows you to get away from the daily stresses of home or work and relax in a new, enjoyable environment. Being an island, Coronado moves at a slightly slower pace than the rest of the world, so it’s easy to slip away for a run, nap, swim, meditation, or yoga class—whatever it is that helps you recharge.

Save Money

There are plenty of free things to do around the island, and staying at the Coronado Inn puts you right in the middle of the action—while keeping your vacation on budget. Spend the day at the beach, meander around the Ferry Landing, have a picnic in Spreckels Park, or explore the tide pools without spending a dime.

When you book a room with us, you also get to enjoy amenities like a swimming pool, Wi-Fi, and a continental breakfast at no additional cost. Plus, access to a kitchen and BBQ grills means you can cook your own meals instead of eating out, saving you money while visiting with us.

Learn Something New

Many people make it a point to learn something new in the new year. And a vacation to Coronado gives you a number of opportunities to do so. Take a painting class (there are multiple venues just across the Bay in downtown San Diego that host paint nights), put a new language to the test by visiting our neighbors to the south, discover the history of San Diego (by visiting the USS Midway Museum or one of the many museums in Balboa Park), or catch your first wave by learning to surf. You may not become a pro surfer or fluent in Spanish on your first go, but that just means you’ll have to visit us again for more practice.

Book your stay with the Coronado Inn, and we’ll help you keep up with your resolutions. Check out our room options and availability here.
Where to Stay in Coronado, California2017-12-19T17:41:03+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/where-to-stay-in-coronado-california/
Once you book your tickets on your paradise adventure, you run into the question, “Where do I stay in Coronado?” Never fear, we’re here to make the case why Coronado Inn is going to hit every criteria you’ve added to your list.

Family Friendly

Vacation is more fun when you get to share memories with the entire family. Pack everyone’s bags knowing not only is the island a perfect place for multiple generations, at Coronado Inn we cater to the entire tribe.

For the little ones, hit the pool early. Grams and gramps might want a little R&R, so have them pull up a lounge chair and enjoy a classic novel. As for you, pop out that kindle and take advantage of the free Wi-Fi poolside to download the latest book to hit the market.

Our array of room options allows you to place family members in the best way to keep the politics at bay. After all, it’s your vacation! The suite setup also encourages longer trips, giving you the option to cook right there in the room.

Then grandma and grandpa can show the kiddos some of those secret family recipes.

Amenities Included

No one wants to invest a small fortune into a vacation only to be nickeled and dimed every step of the way. At Coronado Inn, not only do we keep our prices affordable, we include all the amenities. That poolside Wi-Fi we mentioned? Not only is it free, you can enjoy it in your rooms or the lobby as well.

Eager to skip the hunt to find a breakfast everyone will enjoy? Opt for our free continental breakfast every morning.

Doesn’t Break the Bank

We pride ourselves on being the leading budget accommodation on the island. Regardless of if you’re spearheading a romantic getaway for two or bringing the whole Brady Bunch along for the ride, we want there to be enough leftover in the budget to explore the island, dine by the shore, and shop along Orange Ave.

Free Parking

While it’s debatable if you even need a car on the island, we provide first come, first served free parking. No hidden fees or fancy valets to tip. Let’s agree to keep it simple and easy.

Book Today!

Don’t hesitate: book today! Especially during the high season, we’ve been known to book out fast. Take advantage of the best budget- and family-friendly option of the island and secure your room today.

Start your trip to paradise here.
Extreme and Unique Activities for San Diego and Coronado2017-12-05T17:23:58+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/extreme-and-unique-activities-for-san-diego-and-coronado/
While we can’t imagine needing anything more than endless golden beaches and that glorious SoCal sunshine, many travelers yearn for something a little more unique to satisfy that adventurous spirit. Some even seek out that addictive adrenaline rush that comes with extreme sports. Luckily our slice of paradise offers a plethora of entertainment to complement the beaches.

For the traveler looking to knock unique, different, or just plain intriguing off their travel list, check out this out-of-the-box activities list.

Skydiving

What could spur more adrenaline than jumping out of an airplane? We put skydiving at the top of the extreme list because, well, there are few things that can be more extreme than this.

Not to mention the views of the Pacific Ocean you will savor on the high-speed chase to landing.

Southern California enjoys several different skydiving companies. Check out Yelp to discover the highest rated ones and to see what other fliers have said.

Alas, we’ve enjoyed having our feet firmly planted on the ground. The only time we’ve enjoyed that feeling of suspension is when hitting the pool.

Drive a Sports Car

Has your dream always been to slip into the driver’s seat of a Lamborghini? What about testing out speeds in a Ferrari or giving a Porsche a spin out on the track? Well you’re in luck. All three models happen to be yours for the taking, well driving actually, thanks to Extreme Adventures.

Strap in because you’ll be hitting the track in (almost) record speeds. Don’t worry; you’ll have a professional co-pilot with you the entire time. If you’re a bit too young to take the wheel or not as confident around the turns, you can opt for the passenger seat. All the same thrill, but a little less adrenaline.

Spend the Night in the Wild

Get ready to mingle the roaring and the snoring with a night in the wild at the San Diego Safari Park. Enjoy after-hours guided tours, early morning sightings, and more that are exclusive to those enjoying the Roar and Snore program. Many animals’ activity picks up at nightfall, so this is almost a guarantee to see the park at its most active point.

Swim with the Leopard Sharks

To get a little more in-person encounter, take an open water dive with the leopard sharks. Yes! San Diego offers several snorkeling trips out of La Jolla where these sharks call home.

Just in case we got your adrenaline a little too high, know that leopard sharks are virtually harmless. In fact, you’ll often find that they can be quite shy. As SD Expeditions points out, if you can swim you can snorkel.

This is great for water lovers and animal enthusiasts looking for more of an authentic interaction.

SUP at Night

For the action sport aficionado, try out a beloved sport with a twist. Embrace stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) in the dark. Don’t worry. You won’t be completely in the dark. Each board comes with a series of lights below the board to help light the way.

Reducing daylight adds a whole new spin to this favorite pastime. For starters, going shortly after or around dusk will treat you to a splendid display of colors lighting the shoreline with the lights from your board twinkling in the waves.

Check out Bike and Kayak Tours to explore their nighttime options.

A Safe Haven for the Night

While it’s fun to get that adrenaline pumping during the day, it’s even better to have a quality night sleep. When you’re not snoring with the animal kingdom, consider staying with us at Coronado Inn. Nestled into the heart of the most gorgeous island this side of the Pacific, we provide all the comforts of home at a budget-friendly price.

The island provides not only a plethora of extreme activities, but we also have a full plate for those who enjoy a much slower pace.

Best San Diego and Coronado Brews for Winter2017-10-31T17:41:41+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/best-san-diego-and-coronado-brews-for-winter/
One of the best things about living in a city embracing everything beer means a fresh selection of brews for every season. While the northern section of our state wins constant accolades for their vineyards, San Diego has been quietly creating a brew empire. In recent years, they’ve even been challenging long-standing beer cities like Denver, Colorado and Portland, Oregon to earn their keep in this arena.

Let’s just say San Diego has been turning the beer world upside down.

With San Diego Beer Week taking over our region each November, brew masters across Southern California ramp up their creativity to outshine their peers. That results in 500 breweries throwing their hats into the ring. Ultimately, this friendly competition means beer drinkers everywhere win during the winter months.

If you’re exploring our region with the hopes of getting your hops on, consider checking out theses signature winter beers from our local breweries.

Coronado Brewing: The Early Bird

Tipping their hats to the cold brew coffee crowd, Coronado Brewing teamed up with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters to muster up a little magic through cross pollination. Together they crafted the Early Bird Stout. This cold brew milk stout pushes the boundaries on the stout world, as well as bringing cold brew aficionados to the dark beer side of the force.

Alesmith: My Bloody Valentine

While you may not be thinking of every couple’s favorite holiday yet, Alesmith is. It seems like they are solidly in the corner for singles with their beer My Bloody Valentine. Yes, to celebrate Single’s Awareness Day, they have crafted a beautiful crimson drink that melds caramel, toast, and bittersweet chocolate to balance with an intense bouquet of floral hop aromas.

This is one brewery we have to salute for the most memorably named selection. For Halloween they released Evil Dead Red. Even the name sounds creepy. You should see the bottle.

Here are their other seasonal releases.

Flavorful West Coast-style IPAs are the main attraction, supported by a cast of classic ambers, frothy stouts, and experimental brews. With over 90 craft beer breweries in the area, we have compiled this guide to five of the best so you can jump right in and explore the craft beer culture of San Diego and Coronado.

Coronado Brewing Company

170 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA, 92118

CBC has been delighting visitors and residents of Coronado Island for nearly two decades. Founded by brothers Ron and Rick Chapman, this family-owned local favorite serves up a dizzying array of classic West Coast ales, specialized ambers, and wheat beers.

Don’t miss the delightfully citrusy Orange Ave Wit, boasting hints of orange zest and coriander, or the Islander IPA - a deliciously hoppy local favorite. If you are feeling peckish you can’t go wrong with their famous Brewhouse Mussels sauteed in CBC’s own Seacoast Pilsner with garlic, pico de gallo, and cajun cream.

Mission Brewery

1441 L Street, San Diego, CA 92101

Housed in the historic Wonder Bread building in San Diego’s East Village, Mission Brewery’s one-of-a-kind space features beautiful exposed brick walls and an utterly massive 2,500 sq ft tasting room overlooked by the brewhouse.

The real highlight of a visit to Mission Brewery is taking a tour of the brewery where you will get to experience the brewing process from start to finish. A sampling of five signature brews is included along the way.

Resident Brewing Company

1065 Fourth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101

Their slogan is “For The Love of Beer” and they mean it. Resident Brewmaster Rob Masterson - a former IT consultant - started it all many years ago when he received a microbrew kit for Christmas and fell in love with the art of brewing. Since then, he has brewed numerous award-winning beers and opened Resident Brewing Company, which shares a space with craft restaurant The Local.

Resident’s signature Vacation Coconut IPA is a real standout - a medium light-bodied beer with notes of lightly toasted coconut, pineapple, and sweet tropical citrus. We would describe it as “a vacation in a glass”.

Half Door Brewing

903 Island Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101

Set in a two-storey Victorian-style home in the middle of San Diego’s glittering high-rise condos, Half Door Brewing oozes with character. From the rustic tables to the pictures on the walls to the overflowing bookshelves, Half Door provides an easy, pleasant atmosphere to enjoy a pint.

Well-known for their Irish stouts, Half Door also brews up delicious pale ales, IPAs, and mocha brews. A unique favorite is the Gimmick Ale - a 5.4% white chocolate, peanut butter, golden milk stout. It’s dessert in beer form. You’re welcome.

Ballast Point - Little Italy

2215 India Street, San Diego, CA 92101

Ballast Point has been brewing local favorites for over 30 years. Winner of a whopping 34 national and international beer awards, the California Amber is a tried-and-true crowd-pleaser. Not far behind with 29 awards of its own, the Sculpin India Pale Ale is a delightfully hoppy classic, with notes of mango, peach, apricot, and lemon.

Superbly located in charming Little Italy, Ballast Point also offers outdoor seating so you can enjoy a refreshing brew in the San Diego sunshine. With over 40 beers on tap and a slew of experimental offerings (Habanero Sculpin, anyone?) you are sure to find something to suit your palate.

The Final Stop on Your Brewery Tour

After all this touring and tasting, you are bound to be tired. Why not get the rest you need at the Coronado Inn? We offer family-friendly accommodation and a wealth of amenities at rates that won’t break the bank. Free Wifi, access to our swimming pool, use of BBQ grills, and a scrumptious complimentary breakfast are all included with your room. Our location in the heart of Coronado is a two-block walk to the ferry landing, from which you can take a quick sail across the bay and explore downtown San Diego on foot. And if you don’t feel like leaving the island, our local gem - Coronado Brewing Company - is just steps from our front door.

What to Wear in San Diego & Coronado in the Winter2017-08-24T21:34:30+00:00raindrop/blog/author/raindrop/https://coronadoinn.com/blog/what-to-wear-in-san-diego-coronado-in-the-winter/
Planning a trip is heaps of fun. Imagine the sights you will see, the food you will eat, the things you will do. But what will you wear? It can be difficult to know if you have never been to your destination before. Luckily, we are here to help you with that.

With over 265 days of sunshine per year, Coronado and San Diego are blessed with some of the best weather in the country, even in winter. If this is your first visit to the area, we can help demystify what to pack to ensure you are dressed appropriately to enjoy your holiday.

At the Beach

Welcome to the best beach in the country! We are not exaggerating. Time and time again, Coronado Beach tops the lists of best beaches in the country. With clear water, soft sand, and spectacular sunsets, Coronado Beach is sure to be a hit with the entire family.

For a wintertime beach visit, loose pants that can be rolled up at the cuff and easily removable shoes are both fashionable and practical. It may be too chilly to get in the water without a wetsuit, but strolling along the shore is a lovely way to spend an afternoon or evening.

You won’t be able to resist squishing the soft, golden sand between your toes, so shoes you can easily remove such a flip flops or slip-on sandals are a life-saver. And once you’ve wiggled your toes in the sand, we wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t resist dipping them into the Pacific Ocean too. So roll up your pant legs and enjoy an ankle-deep wade without worrying about your clothes getting wet.

On a Day Trip

Coronado is just a hop, skip, and a jump (and by that we mean a short ferry ride) from downtown San Diego. If you are exploring the city on foot or venturing into the surrounding areas by car, we have a few tips for what to wear to stay comfortable.

Day trip fashion tip #1: Layers are your best friend. While it may be gloriously sunny outside, you never know when you might find yourself in an indoor area so air conditioned, you wonder if you even went on vacation at all. A light jacket or cardigan sweater over a short-sleeved top helps you stay warm in overzealous air conditioning and can be easily removed when you find yourself back in the sunshine.

Day trip fashion tip #2: Comfort is key. Exploring new places, especially ones with beautiful weather like San Diego and Coronado, often involves much more walking than we expect. Be kind to your body and choose a pair of shoes that are comfortable to walk in. Your feet will thank you later.

To a Special Event

Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular as today’s new couples like to combine their celebrations with vacations for the whole family.

Ladies attending a beach wedding will look spectacular in a long, flowy dress in a floral pattern or colorful solid. Flat, strappy sandals are an excellent footwear choice as you will be walking in sand, and a pashmina or scarf will come in handy to wrap around your shoulders if a cool breeze picks up.

Gentlemen at a beach wedding will look dashing in a linen suit or khakis and a white button up.

If the reception is to be held at a local restaurant or hotel, it is worth calling the establishment ahead of time to see if they uphold a dress code, such as requiring a jacket or tie.

Spending Time with Family

Family vacations are rich with opportunities to snap photos of each other having fun in new places. For a lasting memento of your holiday, and perhaps an addition to your annual Christmas card, consider having a professional photographer capture some special moments of your family on vacation. We’ve even catalogued the top spots to capture that special moment.

Deciding what to wear in family portraits is easy when you choose a theme and everyone wears their own matching clothes. For example, jeans and white tops look fantastic in family photos. Other ideas are plaid shirts and dark pants, a tropical shirt theme, or even a family collection of humorous t-shirts.

Get Dressed at the Coronado Inn

No matter what you are wearing, it is how you feel that will determine how much you enjoy your vacation. At Coronado Inn, we provide all the comforts of home so you can wake up each day feeling rested and refreshed. Our memory foam mattresses ensure you get sufficient beauty sleep, and our complimentary continental breakfast is a delicious way to start the day. When you aren’t exploring the city or attending a special event, you can relax by the pool, take advantage of our complimentary WiFi, or host a family dinner on one of our BBQ grills. Serious grillers can even bring their own apron and chef hat.

Coronado is a popular winter vacation destination, and our rooms fill up quickly, so book yours today!

It’s no secret: Coronado Beach is one of the best in the country! With mile-long stretches of soft, golden sand and sunny skies all year round, it’s easy to see why Coronado Beach frequently tops the lists of best beaches in America.

Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to take a dip in the Pacific Ocean as water temperatures are warmest in early September. So go ahead and book that surf lesson or try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding.

For those more inclined to relaxing on the beach, nothing beats a good book under an umbrella while the kids enjoy a game of frisbee.

This Labor Day weekend, Pop Vinyl retakes the stage to carry the crowd through an evening of boogie-worthy hits from the past five decades. Bring your best dance moves because the locals have been practicing theirs for years!
