2016 Coronado Guide to the 4th of July

Posted 8 years, 10 months ago

Coronado and neighboring San Diego are two of the best places in the country to celebrate Independence Day. Perhaps it’s due to our long-standing patriotism. It could also be due to our valiant military community.

Whatever the reason, we can confidently say that a Southern California 4th of July experience is the most memorable way to celebrate.

While San Diego offers several great attractions, at Coronado Inn we still believe that Coronado is the best place for you and your family this July. Point blank, Coronado is paradise. With our golden beaches, friendly community members, and small town feel, you can’t go wrong choosing a vacation in Coronado.

Here are some of the Independence Day activities you can choose to enjoy this year:

Parade

You can’t have a good 4th without a parade! We have an excellent parade. From vintage cars to community groups to clowns to detailed floats and more, this is an incredible production. The entire community comes out to celebrate the event. That alone makes it worth joining in.

With our seasoned bands playing in the parade, you can’t help but dance along from the sidelines.

Music in the Park

If the marching bands didn’t put a little spring in your step, this event will. Coronado hosts an entire summer concert series at Spreckels Park. While we enjoy every concert, the Independence Day celebration is by far the best!

It probably has to do with the incredible community vibe. After the parade, families move to the park. While traditionally the music doesn’t start until four, the action at the park starts early as people hunker down to claim their spot.

We recommend bringing a blanket, picnic meal, and good humor for a joyous afternoon.

Sporting Events

Either by land or sea, we have a sporting event for you! Coronado hosts an annual Crown City Classic run for the land dwellers. Runners can choose between a 12k, 5k, and fun mile run for the kiddos. Swimmers opt for the Annual Rough Water Swim. This event offers a 400-yard, half-mile or mile course.

Some years you can catch a Padres game. Unfortunately, 2016 will be an away game on the 4th. The July 3rd game location against the Yankees is to be determined. If the game ends up in San Diego, Petco Park is a short ferry ride away.

Fireworks

The event you’ve been waiting for! The Coronado fireworks are worth the wait. In fact, the Coronado fireworks show is part of a four-part show called the Big Bay Boom. The event has a choreographed show shooting fireworks off of four barges in the Bay. This stunning display lights up the entire San Diego skyline in the most brilliant display you will ever enjoy.

Viewers head to the Coronado Ferry Landing and Glorietta Bay point for a front row seat at the southernmost barge.
